Lower emissions for Barking

Community consultation

BlueCurrent is bringing forward proposals for a new multi-storey electric vehicle charging hub in Barking, just off Alfreds Way (A13). The new charging hub will provide reliable overnight charging for delivery and logistics vehicles, supporting the transition of delivery fleets towards sustainable electric vans.

This purpose-built facility will help support local businesses and couriers to switch to electric and improve local air quality.

We held a consultation from 21st August 2025 to 31st October 2025. We will now consider all feedback and comments carefully before submitting a planning application.

This consultation website provides details on the site, the proposals, as well as the benefits a new electric vehicle charging hub will bring to Barking.

Our plans

Our proposals

  • Four-level open-sided charging deck (ground plus three levels) for electric vans
  • Chargers in every parking bay
  • Well-lit pedestrian walkways and four stair cores for safety and accessibility
  • Small on-site buildings for security, welfare, and hub management
  • Improved site access from Alfred’s Way for safe entry and exit
  • New landscaping and fencing to improve the site’s appearance and fit with the local environment
